Forgive me friends, for I have sinned. It has been 5 weeks since my last post!
Not a practising Catholic but some phrases linger in your mind, and this one seemed apt!
Since I finished my vest, I have not been especially productive. I have done some pattern work on the Mitchell pants. I needed to size up, and then do some other adjustments. I got approval to move forward from my local frock-friends. But with shorter and colder days, and school work I have not had much energy for sewing.
I did get a request from Australia daughter for 'something that would be fun to sew: scrub caps.' After doing some quick internet research (who knew that whether to wear your own scrub caps could be so controversial... and I am not talking about the sanitary aspect...).
She confirmed that she does wear them, and something instead of the bandanna-like version would be fun. So I found a you-tuber who had several version, and I selected the bouffant style (which can better contain longer hair).
The youtuber is Meghan Grace DIY and this is the the link for the bouffant style cap that I made. These were posted in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic when many of us were sewing masks. I had not realized that sewing scrub caps was a need, too!
The instructions are good - a beginner who knows how to use their sewing machine could follow. And yet... I made an error on the first one🙄. I cut out the pieces from both ends, not just the one. (see photo of diagram as it should be cut). I made a paper pattern after that, which allowed me to save a bit of space on the fabric.
Determining the length of elastic for a head that was not in front of me was a guessing game. Local daugther, who has a big head, suggested that they were not tight enough for her sister, so I tightened them, and we have our fingers crossed.
I made a few extra to sell at the craft fair. They can be chef hats or gardening hats, so ... they may appeal to someone!
could be a chef hat

I also bought tea-towel fabric and hemmed them to send to her too. Because who can't use another tea-towel?! (No photo, though)
Having completed progress reports last weekend, I did have time to sew this weekend. I am using some raw-silk herrigbone pattern fabric that my PR friend Moxie Carol sent me, to make some lounge pants (using the Carolyn PJ pant pattern.)
My craft sale is next week - I need to determine prices. That is tough! People say - add your production costs (mostly zero) to labour costs (did I count hours?!) and add your profit... My goal is to off-load my off-cut stash by making one-of-a-kind lovely items!

Looking forward to seeing the results of your stash sewing at the craft sale next Sunday! DB
