New shorty PJs

It is a long weekend here, and I have a lot planned.

First order of business was to get the photos taken for my recent make - an entry into the What Was I Thinking contest at Pattern Review.

My sewing goal this year is to use up what I have - full cuts and off-cuts. My travels last year saw me purchase more than I normally would without a plan. Twelve yards (yes, they use yards in Ghana) of African Wax Print is a lot for a Canadian wardrobe!

I have alread posted about my Brownie dress from one of my cuts, and some pillow cases and placemats from another. That leaves me with 8.5 yards. So yes - what was I thinking when I bought so much?!

I know how it happened. The first 6.5 yards were bought at a market. Made in China... but I didn't know better! I was looking for something to make a sarong (for my post-swim wrap), and bought two pieces (one mainly pink, one mainly yellow... Not my every day colours), and I bought 2.5 yards of this 'pebbles in a stream' red and turquoise print. That was for an as-yet undetermined garment.

I then purchased three pieces, two yards each, at 'Woodin' which is the made in Ghana brand. Why did I buy two of the same pattern in different colours (one pink - still sitting in my stash?)

So when this contest came up I decided to use one of these pieces, and the easiest one was the pebbles in a stream. Someone suggested a shirt - I did not see it... I have too many prints in my wardrobe at the moment, and not much to wear WITH them! But PJs - that would work.

So here you have it.

non-matching bias hem tape!
The top is (once again) the Closet Core Kalle shirt - short sleeves, shirt length. The bottoms, once again the bottoms of the Closet Core Carolyn PJ set (shorts). I had JUST enough - I placed the collar & collar band pieces, the cuffs and the waistband on the cross grain in order to make it work.

I used some self-dyed cotton for some flat piping. This was from a workshop I did a few years ago. Wish there had been enough to use the same piping around the sleeve cuffs! Instead I did some piping below the collar band. And I had to scrounge for some bias tape for the hem - doesn't match at all! But hey - that is on the inside of a garment I will be wearing to sleep in. No shame!

Now looking forward to warmer weather when I can wear these!

In other sewing, I did complete a couple more of the Komebukuro (rice bags) and a hat (this is for the Craft show inventory).

And my sewing plans for this long weekend include sewing up some mystery fabric, but possibly Liberty Viyella, that I picked up at a thrift store! A few moth holes to work around. AND... (possible drum roll) it is my intention to do the buttonholes, buttons and sleeve hems on the Lekala jacket.
