Reverse appliqué

As I have mentioned, I am a member at Pattern Review. There are monthly contests, and monthly sew-alongs. I try to enter contests if they appeal to what I would wear and sew.

November marks PR's 25th anniversary, and so many of the contests this year pay a not to that. This month is make a commemmorative T-shirt.

This was my chance (or push!) to finally do some 'reverse appliqué', inspired by the Alabama Chanin techniques.

The question was.... how to commemmorate this online sewing community which I have come to rely on!

Here is what I did.

  • I used the webpage colours (tan & teal).
  • to mark 25 I decided to do something with 25 pieces - in this case a vine:
    • 20 leaves on the back, and 5 on the front. The five on the front are the number of years I have been involved.
There were some challenges.
  • My fabrics did not play too nicely together - different stretch, and also they kind of clung to each other.
  • Placing of the motif - I did not leave myself enough room to change the length or the neck opening, both of which I would have liked to do.
I used both the right side (camo print) and wrong side (teal) of the thicker poly athletic knit; The tan is an evil rayon t-shirt knit.

But overall I am fairly pleased!
